The Doug
McMinn
Jazz
Quartet
was
formed
many
years ago
by
multi-instrumentalist Doug
McMinn,
who
called
upon
three
close
friends
to
join
him in
the
simple
pleasure
of
playing
great music.
Great
friends,
playing
jazz ...
and
enjoying every
moment of
it.
The quartet features some of the most
respected musicians
in the
Williamsport
(PA)
area,
and their
song
selections
range
from
classic
standards
like
"Stella
By
Starlight"
to more
funky, contemporary
tunes
like Herbie
Hancock's
"Watermelon
Man."
The Doug McMinn Jazz Quartet is always completely
enjoyable
in any
live
music
venue, or
as the
sonic
background
for your
private
affair
!
With
the DMJQ,
Doug
McMinn's
instruments
are tenor
& alto
saxophones
and
clarinet.
In his
other
musical
endeavors,
however,
Doug also
plays
electric
&
acoustic
guitar
and sings
soulfully ...
performing
as a solo
blues
act, in a
duo with
the
extremely
talented
Hannah Bingman,
in the
rockin' blues
quartet
Black-N-Blues,
and in
the
popular
jam band
Lumpy
Gravy.
We'll
tell you
more
about
Doug soon
... once
we gain
the
appropriate
security
clearance
from the
Pentagon.
Guitarist
Dave
Brumbaugh,
a
graduate
of
Boston's
prestigious
Berklee
College
Of Music,
is also
the
founder
of
Williamsport's
very own non-profit
school of
music,
The
Uptown
Music
Collective
... which
now
boasts
over 160
students,
and
offers
them a
musical
education
complete
with live
performance
experience,
hands-on
technical
training,
music
theory,
special
workshops
and more. Dave has
worked
with
countless
artists
over the
years,
including
the likes
of Aretha
Franklin,
Martha
Reeves &
The Vandellas
and more.
A
consummate
guitarist,
Dave's
depth of
musical
knowledge
brings a
very
special
element
to the
DMJQ.
Bassist Tim Breon
is a
musician's
musician,
if ever
there was
one ...
perfect
pitch and
all. He
began
playing
guitar at
the age
of 8, and
at 13, he
began
study of
the bass
with
James
Bertrand.
During
high
school,
Tim
attended
State
Orchestra
and The
Governor’s
School
for the
Arts.
During
his
mid-twenties,
Tim
traveled
the East
Coast
with The
David
Rose
Band, a
regionally
well-known
group,
and they
performed
often in
major
cities
such as
New York,
Baltimore
and
Philadelphia.
He also
studied
guitar in
New York
City with
Ben Sher,
and later
with Dave
Brumbaugh,
founder
of the
Uptown
Music
Collective
... and
obviously,
a member
of the
McMinn
quartet!
After leaving The David Rose Band, he returned to
orchestral
playing
with
The
Williamsport
Symphony,
in which
he is
currently
principal
bassist
and stage
manager.
Over the
last
fifteen
years as
both a
bassist
and
guitarist,
Tim has
backed
dozens of
great
performers,
including
Chuck
Mangione,
Neil
Sedaka,
Maynard
Ferguson,
Lionel
Hampton, Olivia
Newton-John,
Davy
Jones,
Clay
Aiken and
jazz
great
David Liebman.
Aside
from the
DMJQ and
Williamsport
Symphony,
Tim can
also be
seen and
heard
with The
Johnny
Jolin
Band and
Kristin
Fisher.
Tim is
also
Guitar &
Bass
Instructor
and
Director
of the
Electronic
Music Lab
at
Lycoming
College,
the
Director
of Bass
Curriculum
for The
Uptown
Music
Collective,
and he
operates
his own
digital
recording
&
production
studio at
his home.
Drummer
Joel B
Vincent
is one of
the most
respected
and
in-demand drummers
in the
region, and
he
has
worked
with the
likes of
Bo Diddley,
Levon
Helm,
Davy
Jones,
Joan
Osborne,
Melissa
Reaves
and many
others
over the
course of
thirty-odd
years as
a drummer.
With
musical
influences
running
the gamut
from
Glenn
Miller to
Earth,
Wind &
Fire,
and
drumming
influences
such as
Joe Morello,
Ed
Thigpen, Jeff Porcaro,
Stewart
Copeland,
John
Bonham, Dave
Garibaldi,
Bill
Goodwin
and good
friend Steve
Mitchell
(to name
only a
few) ...
Joel's
style can
be
described
as
unassuming, fluid
and even
understated,
yet
expressive
and
dynamic
at the
same
time.
Surprisingly
not
a huge
fan of
drum
solos,
Joel
prefers
to have
his fun
within
the songs
...
driving
the band
to where
ever
they'd
like to
travel.
Currently,
Joel can
also be
seen & heard
performing with the
highly-popular
blues
trio
The Blind
Chitlin
Kahunas.
In
addition
to
drumming,
Joel is
the
creator &
editor of
BilltownLive.com,
the
Williamsport
area's
most
popular
local
website.
